Elyse’s Story
I was introduced to art therapy in childhood. It helped me find joy in the process of art, without any aspirations of greatness. After initially studying Psychology and working in mental health, I began making art and music in my free time. This was highly empowering, and inspired me to fuse creative practices with my psychology background, culminating in obtaining my Master’s degree in Art Therapy from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2016.
I have practiced art therapy in various clinical and community settings, including: domestic violence counseling, special education classrooms, community mental health centers, crisis response programs, and youth empowerment programs. Throughout my practice, I have witnessed how art making has led to hope and empowerment for people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
My Identities
Some of my identities include queer, fat, femme, neurodivergent, spiritual, and parent. I enjoy serving people both within and outside of these identities.
In my free time, I like being in nature, making art, listening to music, watching tv & movies, and spending time with my kids. I also have an astrology practice. More info on that soon!
